"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him." (Psalm 127:3)
In the night of January 25th, 2013, the long-awaited miracle from God was born, our son Stefans. He was a child who was awaited and for whom has been prayed. As all other children, Stefans also was special from the very first days, because every gift God gives to you is special. If you have children, you will certanly agree that, waiting for a baby to arrive is a very special time, but the first child is special also because he is a firstborn.
During first weeks, from time to time we
could notice a smile on Stefans' face and we were happy to watch it. For us as
the parents, every day seemed to bring something new what we're not experienced
yet, because there was a little God given miracle that joined our family. A new
member of our family made us laugh a lot, rejoice and also to work a lot.
Stefans was very active not only when he was born, but even before in his mum's belly. We have no words to express what king of feelings we had, when we were watching this little life growing and developing. The gift from God always is a miracle and so it was with our beloved and special son Stefans.
He was our treasure. Yes, we named him
Stefans, but we often called him in many sweet names like a sonny, Stephy and
many others, and ofcource, he enjoyed, when we were calling him our victorer.
He is a great victorer!
When small children are growing up, you just can't stop the time, that is why we enjoyed every moment together with Stefans. There was one of August days in 2014, when our son had a high temperature and it was difficult to get it down and it lasted for several days in a row. When nothing changed, we had to go to the Children hospital in Riga to go through all needed procedures and to help Stefans' organism to recover. Unfortunately, on August 28th they discovered that there was a malignant tumor warped around the main spine blood vessels. It was not possible to make a surgery to cut the tumor, so the only chance to help Stefans was chemotherapy, as doctors sad to us.
This day brought a great shock for us as the parents, it's not possible to find the words to express, what do you feel when you see your child in this condition. During the next days, a big number of Christians not only from Latvia, but all around the world, joined us in the prayers for Stefans' healing. This power of intercession prayers was a great support for Stefans and for us. We experienced it day to day.
The oncologist has warned us that this type of tumor is very aggressive and it is growing fast, so there was no hope on full recovery given to us. We immediately started the first course of chemotherapy treatment and we gave our son Stefans to the hands of God, because the medicine has its limits, but the final word belongs to God. We had to continue to pray and to wait.
Four months later, Stefans was brought to Magnetic resonance imaging test, to see if the tumor is getting smaller. During the same week, we've got an unofficial information from the oncologist, that the tumor is completely gone from Stefans' body. The doctors were shocked and we were pleasantly suprised. Usually it doesn't happen this way, but we knew, that this was a work of God. On doctors request, we have finished the remaining courses of chemitherapy and later we also went to Lithuania in order to make stem cell transplantation. After all those procedures, the slow recovery process started for Stefans and for our daily life.
It is so good to come back home and to be around people you love as well as those, who were praying for us and thinking of us for such a long time. We thank God for all those people, who supported us both financially and in their prayers. This is a great treasure to see around you so many people, who are thinking about you. Me and my wife cannot deny it, because it has been a great power.
Stefans recovered from all health problems and he became stronger, more active and more joyful. For us as the parents this was like honey, the great incomprehensible joy. Stefans loved animals very much, he enjoyed playing with animal miniatures, specially with lions. His favourite animals were lion, tiger and horses, but ofcource there were many others as well. Stefans loved not only the animals, but also the books. Together with us he was watching and reading many, many books. One of his favourite books was The Bible for Children. Specially he remembered stories about Daniel and David and Goliath.
Stefans knew that we love Jesus, that is why there was no day without prayer. We prayed together every day. Stefans always had something to be thankful to God. He loved his new friend - Jesus. We enjoyed these wonderful moments together with our son, but we could not imagine that this time will be so short. Two years later, during the regular check up, they found that the tumor is back. This time the doctors and the medicine could not help, so God was the only hope for us. We prayed, we believed and we waited, but God had a different plan. We are glad, that we could stay together with our son until the very last moment, our support and our care was very important also for him. Stefans was very obedient and he had a great patience, despite all the bad feelings.
We are grateful to God that despite the
difficulty of the situation and the sickness, He essentially relieved it. Our
beloved son went to Jesus in the morning of January 10th, 2017, shortly before
his fourth birthday. This morning was not easy, but we were aware that Stefans
is now free and happy in the arms of Jesus, this was our only comfort.
Despite this difficult test in my life, I believe, that the time for the miracles is not over. Sometimes we can't understand the plans and the will of God, but He waits for our faith and trust regardless of our understanding. Also, in this time of greef, it is very important to have people around you, who would pray and support, we are very grateful to God for the special people in our lives, who helped us to walk through this dark valley.
Dear son, we are not separated from you, we say - goodbye!
Dear parents, - love your children,
evaluate them as the great God given treasures! Be grateful to God for every
moment you can spend together with your children. They love you!
